The Footage

Because of some miscommunications we ended up at the cottage on a day it wasn’t open therefore we
were only able to film the gardens as the cottage itself was all locked up. Although this was
inconvenient it gave us a chance to practice filming and find what ways worked best to keep the
camera steady etc..

These are few snippets of footage we took, in the background a lot of noise came through so that
provided a lot of inspiration for what kind of noise/music track we could put with the video.
The footage itself is nice, but we decided we needed to focus more on capturing the actual
atmosphere rather than what looks nice.

These are some photos taken from one of our many trips to colonial cottage.

VINE

Like Twitter none of our group had ever signed up to vine. We knew of it as a social media site where people put up funny videos, we never thought of it as a way to publish art.

Vine is a really simple tool to use on the go to create video content, its free off the app store and works on both android and ios devices. What we really liked about this tool is that you can montage a whole lot of smaller clips to create one video not all apps like vine enable you to do this. Thanks to the montage effect when using vine its easy to capture multiple view points or the atmosphere of a space. The only thing that made Vine slightly restricting was that videos can only be 6 seconds long therefore its only really appropriate for some styles of video.

TWITTER

Twitter is one of the more well known social networks now days, however none of our FAH OUT group members had ever used the site. As part of the paper we were encouraged to sign up. Admittedly we were a little apprehensive but we soon got in to it.

It turns out that it’s a really great way of communicating with not only our group but also other students. It was particularly interesting seeing what groups were doing and sharing ideas with them.  The hashtag : #cocasmc was great so that you could catch up on what every one was doing and see the links tutors posted.

Before this project I had never really seen hashtags as very useful, they had always been something that people just used to get likes on intsagram. When used properly hashtags are a really powerful communication tool.  In class we were also shown that if we also used the moca360 tag what we are doing can be shared with people on the other side of the world who are also doing this.

First Trip to the cottage

Above you can see a Vine I made on our way to the Colonial Cottage for the first time.

During our first visit to the cottage we were only able to see the outside and look through the gardens. We instantly felt the gardens were very homely, and extremely traditional. They almost had a farm like feel to them; you didn’t feel as if you were in the middle of New Zealand’s capital city.  Yet in saying that if you looked beyond the gardens you could see high-rise apartments being built next door – there was a huge juxtaposition.

As a group we decided that we would come back on monday morning to film, we thought that mid-morning light would be best on camera and would look nice filtering through the trees.
